School Procedures
1. Attendance Being at school is very important! Regular attendance is necessary for successful school progress. If you miss school make sure that you find out about the assignments and be sure to pick up any missed notes, or handouts. If you know that you are going to be away, have your parent call the office or bring a note before you go.
2. Late Arrivals It is important to be on time and prepared to learn each day. When the warning bell rings you must immediately proceed to class and sit down in your seat. If you are late each day, your teacher contact your parents so that a good solution can be found to make sure that you are able to come on time.
3. Leaving the School Whenever you leave the school, please sign out at the main office. Your parents need to call the office or write your teacher a note giving you permission to go. When you come back to the school, go to the office to get a late slip before going to class. Whenever possible make your appointments (medical, dental, etc.) outside of regular school hours.
4. Illness/Injury If you get sick or injured, let your teacher know right away. You will be able to come to the office for help. If it is needed, the secretary will call your parents and you will be able to go home if it is possible.
5. School Grounds There are places where students must not go. Please stay away from the parking lot area and the area behind the school. These areas are out of bounds for students during school hours.
6. Personal Property The school assumes no responsibility for stolen or misplaced items. There are certain things that students must not bring to school. Teachers may take these items away if they distract, disturb others, or may threaten student safety. a) Look after your belongings! All items that belong to you must be clearly labeled. b) Lost and Found: Check the Lost and Found if you have misplaced something. c) Personal Electronics: Please keep your personal music players with headphones, or cell phones away in your locker or storage area. It is best to keep these things at home. d) Bikes, roller blades, and skateboards: If you bike to school, you can lock the bike up in the racks. Don’t ride your bike on school grounds. Do not rollerblade or skateboard on school property.
7. Fire Drills In order to be safe, we need to practice our school evacuation during fire drills. When the alarm rings, look for the exit signs. Do not run. In class, the first student at each door will hold the door open until all have gone out. All doors must be closed upon exit. During a fire drill, your classroom teacher will take you out of the building. Then you will meet your homeroom teacher for attendance. Be very quiet during this time. We need to make sure that everyone is outside. When the drill ends, you will go back to your classroom. If the weather is cold, we will go into the Calvary Community Church.
8. Cell Phone Policy You might be a student who needs to carry a cell phone. Please let your parent know that you cannot have your cell phone during class time. You have to keep your cell phone turned off and in your locker or with the teacher. If your parents need to contact you, they can call the office (873-5811) and leave a message. If you need to reach your parents, there is a phone in the classroom you can use. If you do not have your cell phone in your locker, your teacher will take your phone and keep it until the end of the day. Your teacher will call your parents to let them know that you did not follow the rules. If you do not follow the rules a second time, your teacher will take your cell phone and your parents will have to come and pick it up at the office. Please remember to put your cell phone in your locker or with the teacher for safekeeping.
9. Locks and Lockers Grade 7 and 8 students are given a lock for their locker as a privilege. Please do not share your locker combination with other students. Because the lockers are the property of Mildred Hall School the school has the right to open any student’s locker if it is needed.
